Welcome to My Memoir Project—a place designed to help you capture the people, places, and events that have shaped your life. This site is built around one simple idea: your story deserves to be written well. To make that easier, everything here is organized into two main areas: Memoir Chapters and Advice Posts.
The heart of this site is a growing collection of my own memoir chapters—stories from my life written to show you what a fully crafted chapter can look like. Each one is meant to serve as an example you can learn from, study, and borrow techniques from for your own writing.
All of my chapters fall into one of three groups:
People From My Life
Chapters centered on the people who influenced me, for better or worse. Family, mentors, friends, and the characters who show up along the way.
Places From My Life
Settings that left an imprint: long stretches of highway, ballparks, churches, schools, or landscapes that carry memory and meaning.
Events From My Life
Moments and turning points that shaped me—big scenes, quiet revelations, and experiences that stayed with me.
Each chapter runs anywhere from 1,000 to 5,000+ words, allowing room for depth, color, and narrative detail.
At the end of every chapter, you’ll find six writing takeaways—practical little gems you can use to strengthen your own memoir writing. They highlight choices made in the chapter: structure, pacing, detail, dialogue, scene-setting, or emotional truth. Think of them as mini-lessons gathered from lived experience.
Advice Posts
Beyond the chapters, you’ll also see a growing collection of general “Advice” posts. These are informative articles meant to help you navigate the craft of memoir writing:
- How to remember details you thought you’d forgotten
- How to begin a chapter without overthinking it
- How to write about people honestly but respectfully
- How to find your voice
- And plenty more
These posts are for anyone who wants to write better stories—whether you’re drafting a single chapter or a book-length memoir.
